In this video activity we create tissue transfer jewellery using natural clay that has been decorated, kiln-fired and glazed.
Transfer Tissue Jewellery
Step 1
Cut off a small piece of clay and work it into a ball to help remove air bubbles.
Step 2
Roll the clay into a flat slab aprox 5mm thick and use metal cutters to create your jewellery shapes.
Step 3
Cut a piece of transfer tissue slightly larger than your clay piece and place it print side down onto your clay. Using a damp sponge press down on the back of the tissue to release the pattern. Gently lift an edge of the tissue to check the transfer has worked. You can add a little more water to the back of the tissue if needed.
Step 4
After removing the tissue leave your clay pieces to dry completely and then fire them in the kiln.
Step 5
Apply a layer of clear glaze over the top and glaze fire your work in the kiln.
Step 6
Add Jewellery findings to complete your pieces.
