In this lesson plan video we use found native foliage to create beautiful an Australian botanical gel print using acrylic paints.
Australian Botanical Gel Print
Step 1
Put a small amount of Acrylic paint onto your gel plate and spread it evenly across the surface using a brayer.
Step 2
Place a piece of cartridge paper onto the gel plate surface and gently rub over the sheet before lifting it to reveal your background.
Step 3
Apply a small amount of a darker coloured Acrylic paint on the gel plate and spread it evenly across the surface.
Step 4
Place your found foliage pieces onto the painted surface and place a clean piece of cartridge on top. Gently push the paper down onto the foliage and lightly rub over the back being careful not to move the foliage too much before lifting the paper away.
Step 5
Now place your first background print onto the paint that is left on the plate and gently rub the back before lifting the sheet to reveal your layered botanical print.
