Set in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, this workshop invites educators of Levels 4–10 to immerse themselves in hands-on art-making techniques—such as drawing, printmaking, and collage—while exploring First Nations perspectives.
Included is the RBG's Aboriginal Heritage Walk, where participants gain insight into the rich history and thriving culture of the First Peoples of Australia by identifying significant native plants, learning about traditional plant uses, Aboriginal customs, and the ongoing connection to Country.
Drawing inspiration from the Gardens’ natural environment, this workshop empowers educators to adopt culturally responsive teaching practices that foster critical and creative thinking.
In doing so, teachers will be equipped to design inclusive, meaningful, and curriculum-aligned visual arts learning experiences, forging deeper connections between students, community, and Country.
In this live in-person workshop, you will:
- Explore observational drawing techniques
- Engage in drawing from nature (en plein air)
- Investigate a variety of drawing and painting materials and techniques
- Explore the art of monoprinting using Gel Plates
- Create your own personal learning journal incorporating annotation
