Winter School

THE ART ROOM MELBOURNE 10th & 11th JULY 2026

Learn Skills, grow confidence, make art

Step into the studio for two full days of making, guided by acclaimed contemporary visual artists and surrounded by colleagues and fellow educators.

The program is clearly structured: choose drawing, painting, or sculpture, then spend each day in a hands-on workshop with a different artist. Sessions include demonstrations, guided practice, and plenty of studio time to develop your work. You’ll leave refreshed, with new skills, practical processes, and ideas you can take straight back to your classroom and your own practice.

DRAWING

Expanding Drawing: A Unique Two-Day Creative Experience

Discover the power of drawing as a tool for thinking, storytelling and creative exploration in this two-day, in-person drawing intensive with Juan Ford and Jodie Di Natale. Built for serious making, this workshop gives you the chance to slow down, work at scale, and strengthen your relationship with mark making—supported by artists who know how to guide process, build confidence and push practice forward.

Each day follows a clear studio structure with artist demonstrations, guided exercises and generous time to make, refine and reflect. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues and fellow educators, sharing ideas and momentum in a supportive space where experimentation is encouraged and perfection isn’t the point. You’ll leave with renewed creative energy, practical studio habits, and adaptable strategies you can take straight back into your own work and translate into meaningful classroom experiences.

SCULPTURE

A focus on Sculpture: A Unique Two-Day Creative Experience

Step into the studio for a two-day, in-person sculpture intensive with Ara Dolatian and Jacqui Stockdale —a focused opportunity to immerse yourself in material thinking, form and process, and to strengthen your sculpture instincts through sustained making. Designed as a mid-year reset, this workshop supports you to work with clarity and confidence, while extending your practice in ways that feel both purposeful and energising.

Across the two days you’ll move through a clear studio sequence of artist demonstration, guided making and sustained studio time. You’ll experiment with materials and techniques, develop and refine ideas, and make and respond through discussion and reflection with the artists and other educators. You’ll leave with practical processes and adaptable strategies you can take straight back to the classroom, supporting students to explore visual conventions in 3D, apply skills and knowledge, and communicate ideas and intentions through sculptural forms.

PAINTING

The Power of Paint: A Unique Two-Day Creative Experience

Step into the studio for a two-day, in-person painting intensive with Dan Butterworth and Richard Healy—a focused opportunity to immerse yourself in colour, surface and process, and to build stronger painting instincts through sustained making. Designed as a mid-year reset, this workshop supports you to work with clarity and confidence, and to extend your practice in a way that feels both purposeful and energising.

Across the two days you’ll follow a clear studio rhythm of artist demonstrations, guided activities and generous painting time, with space to pause, adjust and push work further. You’ll be alongside colleagues and fellow educators, sharing ideas and encouragement in a supportive environment where experimentation is welcomed. You’ll leave with fresh momentum, practical approaches you can return to again and again, and teaching-ready inspiration you can translate straight into rich classroom learning.
