Art Deco Paint Marker Patterns
Lesson 1
Students explore the style of art deco. Discuss the types of lines and shapes which they see and how these create pattern. Students create a draft design for an art deco style tile. Students can explore a variety of different geometric shapes to create different designs ensuring their drafts are symmetrical.
Students choose 1 of their designs to create as a final artwork. Students cut their black paper into a square and faintly draw their design on black paper using grey lead pencil.
Lesson 2
Students work over their grey lead pencil with gold and silver paint markers. Students should focus on keeping their design symmetrical in both colour and shape.
Once complete students can choose to mount or frame their work and create a class display.
Reflection:
Students analyse their work exploring the art elements of line, shape and symmetry.
Extension:
Students can create multiple pattern artworks on small squares and display their different tile artworks as a set.
