Gel Printing Technique

Step 1:
Apply small dots of acrylic paint to the gel print plate, cover the whole plate.
Step 2:
Roll out the acrylic paint with a rubber roller. Roll the paint in the same direction, back and forth for a few rolls to get even coverage.
Step 3:
Use a variety of different materials, found objects and tools to create shapes, textures or patterns in the inked surface. Stencils, found objects, paper scraps and collage materials can also be used to mask out areas of the plate. NB: It is important to never 'dig' into the actual surface of the Gel Printing Plate.
Step 4:
Line up a sheet of paper over the plate and press it down. Apply and rub even pressure over the paper with a hand or clean roller.
Step 5:
Gently peel back the paper to remove and to reveal the print. Do not allow the paint to dry before removing the paper as this will cause the paper to tear.
