These Balsa Sticks are ideal for construction and art projects in the classroom and at home. Each stick is 3 x 9.5 x 150mm in size and an off-white oatmeal colour. The Balsa Sticks are a dense consistent wood with few to no knots and a silky lustre. Also, these balsa blocks are soft and smooth so no nasty splinters!

Balsa wood is a lightweight soft timber that is easy to manipulate. This makes it perfect for classroom activities. Cut with a blade, snap, sand and join with the greatest of ease. To glue use PVA or craft glue. To hold pieces in place while gluing fix with dress or Lil pins. Paint with acrylic or stain with ink or dye.

Fantastic for STEAM, balsa sticks can be used for building geometric shapes, model cars, planes and contraptions and used for bridge building. Great for art, design and Viscomm, it can be used to make architectural models, dioramas and anything that needs a sturdy support. Also great for covering a surface for that authentic wood look.

Additional Information

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This innovative area of the curriculum combines subjects and skills (including critical and creative thinking) that are necessary for students to engage in in order to understand, improve and advance what is already known about the world. Developing a range of visual, thinking, and hands on skills through these subjects will provide the opportunity for students to better understand and prepare for the problems, solutions and unknown situations of the future. The careers that most of our students will have in the future are still undiscovered, however as educators we hold a responsibility to our students to prepare them and extend them for what could come by giving them the tools to creatively and systematically address problems from multiple angles using a range of strategies and techniques the subjects of STEAM can equip them with.
