Paper Construction Flowers Inspired by Australian Native Flora

Students will explore paper sculpture techniques to design and construct Australian Native-inspired paper flowers and a decorative vessel inspired by the work of Australian ceramicist Bonnie Hislop. They will develop their observational drawing skills, experiment with texture and form, and explore ways to display their work using 2D and 3D construction techniques.

Materials

  • Assorted papers such as origami, coloured card, recycled gift wrap, cover paper and textured papers
  • Kraft card or construction card for vessel
  • Scissors including both large and small
  • Glue types including Supertac, glue pen, glue tape, double-sided tape and sticky squares
  • Masking tape, invisible tape and decorative tape such as glitter or metallic
  • Straws and raffia
  • Paint markers
  • Reference images of native flora such as Jacaranda, Wattle, Red Ironbark and Bottlebrush
  • Staplers
  • Recyclable cylindrical forms for vessel support (optional)
