In this lesson students will explore line, colour and pattern through drawing and mixed media. Taking inspiration from Del Kathryn Barton’s expressive and layered artworks, students will create a self-portrait combining personal imagery and symbolic elements.

Materials

  • A3 or A4 paper
  • Hot press watercolour paper
  • Grey lead pencils and erasers
  • Black fineliners (varied sizes)
  • Watercolour paints (including optional fluorescent or metallic)
  • Paint brushes (variety of sizes)
  • Spray bottles
  • Palettes or mixing surfaces
  • Posca pens (varied colours and nib sizes)
  • Coloured pencils
  • Black brush pen or ink pen
  • Masking tape
  • Mirror
