A Stitch in Time inspired by Julia Gutman

In this extended task, students will modify a photograph to depict a memory from childhood - either real or playfully imagined, as a mixed media, textile collage.

Materials     

  • Calico
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Iron-on transfer paper
  • Embroidery threads in a range of colours
  • Embroidery needle (with a medium sized eye)
  • A range of fabrics
  • Scissors
  • Graphite pencil or erasable friction pen
  • Fast adhesive glue such as Helmar or Uhu
  • Mixed materials such as acrylic and watercolour paint
  • Mixed media tools where needed such as paintbrushes, jars for water etc
  • Coloured markers
