Sgraffito Coaster

In this video we will decorate ceramic tiles with paint markers, then use a sgraffito technique to add detail to our designs.

Step 1

Use Street Paint Markers to draw a design onto the surface of a bisque-fired clay tile. Once you are happy with your design, leave it to dry for 5 minutes.

Step 2

Use a sgraffito technique to scratch into your tile with a pointed clay tool. You can add patterns or detailed lines to your design. Use a soft brush to clean away the dust from the tile.

Step 3

Cut a piece of felt to the size of the tile and glue it onto the back.

Step 4

Apply a layer of Zart Podge to the painted surface and edges of the tile and leave it to dry for 1–2 hours.
