In this video we will explore the art of decorative Japanese mending stitches using colourful wool sewn onto stitching cards.

Step 1

Explore the different stitched patterns that appear in traditional Sashiko mending.

Step 2

Thread a length of coloured wool onto your needle and make a large double knot at the end of the yarn. Begin to create your desired pattern by working your needle through the holes in the card. You can add a second or third coloured yarn to highlight additional patterns.

Step 3

To finish your design, knot off your wool on the reverse side. You can use your design as a card or you can use pva to glue the back piece of card to the reverse side of your work.
