Pop Art Inspired Skateboard Deck

Pop Art themed spraypainted skateboard deck incorporating stencils and Street Paint Markers to create a fun keepsake for final year students.

Step 1

Make sure you are working in a well ventilated area, have protective masks and have a protective covering on your work surface.

Step 2

Lightly spray your skateboard deck in grey then use Pop Art stencils to layer up a patterned background in black, white and grey. Use thin layers of spray paint to build up the layers then leave your background to dry.

Step 3

Use a heavier weight cartridge paper to mark out your words. You will need both the letter shape you cut away from your stencil and the boarder of the letter.

Step 4

Position the cut away letter shapes onto the deck and spray over them with thin layers of black paint to create a shadow effect. Remove the letter shapes and let the paint dry.

Step 5

Now you can start adding in your letters one at a time. Use the shadow markings to line up your letter stencil. Tape paper around the outer edges of the letter shape to prevent overspray. Paint a layer of one colour first and let it set before covering it with a pattern stencil and spraying a second colour. Carefully lift the stencils off the deck and leave to dry. Using a hairdryer will help the paint dry more quickly. Continue until you finish painting all of your letters then leave the paint to fully dry.

Step 6

Use a black paint marker to trace a crisp boarder around each letter. This will help the letters stand out.

Step 7

Let your friends sign your skateboard deck with multi coloured paint markers and leave to dry. You can add a coat of clear varnish if you like.
