In this activity we will use airdrying clay, paper, masking tape and wire to create a seed pod sculpture. This is a wonderfully tactile project and is a great way to introduce First Nations learning into the classroom by exploring our native flora.

Step 1

Use scrap paper, masking tape and wire to create an armature for your sculpture.

Step 2

Flatten a piece of air drying clay and firmly wrap it around your armature. Smooth the surface with your fingers and a small amount of water.

Step 3

Add more clay to add details such as seeds and then use clay tools to add texture to your seed pod sculpture.

Step 4

Leave your sculpture to dry for 24hrs then turn it over and let it dry for a further 24hrs.

Step 5

Once your sculpture is dry, you can leave it white or decorate it with acrylics & markers.
