In this video we will use a square stitch technique to make an Aboriginal flag using pony beads, following a colour-coded grid pattern template.

Step 1

Print off the flag pattern template grid and place a bead of the matching colour onto each square.

Step 2

Cut a 2m length of yarn and thread a single bead onto it. Leave a 15cm tail at the end, then loop the yarn twice through this bead to create an anchor.

Step 3

Thread the first vertical row of beads from your grid onto the yarn until they sit against the anchor bead. Use the video as a guide to add each additional bead, securing them with a square stitch. Continue until all beads from the grid are added.

Step 4

Weave the remaining yarn end back through the beads in the flag design. Remove the anchor bead, then repeat this step with the starting yarn tail.
