This lesson is designed for students from level 3 through to level 6 to teach skills in tie dying inspired by the artists Courtenay Pollock and Mary Patricia Deprez. All lessons can be adapted to suit a variety of year levels and ability levels.In this lesson students explore colour, pattern and shape while creating a tie dye T shirt inspired by Courtenay Pollock and Mary Patricia Deprez. Students will explore different tye dying techniques and experiment with coloured dyes to create their own T shirt design.

Materials     

  • T shirt or calico/cotton pieces
  • Soda ash
  • Procion dyes
  • Rubber gloves
  • Rubber bands
  • Tub or container for water
