
Lost Thing Sculpture Inspired by Shaun Tan

The learning objectives for this lesson are to design and construct a mixed-media sculpture of an imagined ‘lost thing’, combining hand-built clay forms with found and constructed materials, while exploring themes of belonging and individuality drawn from Shaun Tan’s storytelling.
Materials
- Creative Clay (air dry paper clay)
- Cardboard cones and cardboard rolls
- Zart Magic Maize Building Noodles (eco packing peanuts)
- Chenille stems / Pipe cleaners
- Buckles, cogs and honeycomb, card offcuts
- Sequins, buttons and beads
- Markers and masking tape
- Strong craft glue (Supertac)
- Acrylic paint, with optional gloss varnish or decoupage medium
