Creative Response and Connection: Under-the-Sea Collage

An underwater-themed paper collage from the Zart Education On Demand activity Under-the-Sea Collage, layering torn tissue paper in deep blues and teals to build rippling waves, with a child snorkelling past coral, seaweed and starfish rendered in bright pink, orange and green cut-paper shapes below a cloudy sky.

This lesson is designed for students from Level 3 through to Level 6 to teach skills in mixed media collage while drawing inspiration from "Beyond the Shore" by Kirli Saunders and Mark Chester Harding. All lessons can be adapted to suit a variety of year levels and ability levels.

Materials:

  • A3 paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Glue sticks
  • Grey lead pencil
  • Acrylic paint markers (or Posca paint markers)
  • Black fineliner or marker
  • Scissors
