Trees on Country

In this video we will explore the colours and textures of our local trees. We will use Paint Slicks to colour papers and then tear them to resemble bark.

Step 1

Take students outside and look at the trees growing in your local area.
Take photos of the different bark patterns and colours to use as reference.

Step 2

Colour sheets of paper using layers of Paint Slicks to replicate the different colours found in the different tree bark. Add some water to the slicks with a wet brush to create tonal variety and texture. Leave the papers to dry.

Step 3

Once your papers are dry you can tear them into the shapes found on the tree bark.

Step 4

Use a glue stick to attach your bark pieces to a piece of Kraft card. Refer to your photos to see if the bark sits flat on the tree or is lumpy or peeling away and try to replicate the texture.
