Be inspired to create colourful and expressive artworks by exploring the paintings of Ken Done.

We will explore Artist Ken Done, his use of colour, and the celebration of Australia in his artwork.
After viewing Ken Done’s painting style, we will complete two pieces of artwork; One on canvas board using Colour Slicks, and another exploring plasticine as a painting medium on black card.

About the Artist:

Born 29 June, 1940, in Sydney, Ken Done has become one of Australia’s most famous artists. His work has been described as the most original style to come out of Australia, and his paintings are in collections throughout the world.

Ken’s paintings became the creative source of a unique, and highly successful Australian business which continues to promote Australian art and design to a world-wide audience.

In this Workshop, you will:

  • Explore the artwork of Australian Artist Ken Done.
  • Explore Ken Done’s painting style.
  • Explore Ken Done’s painting focus – Australia and all its colours.
  • Explore ‘points of View’ – birds eye view, through a window, front on.
  • Make two art works- one on canvas board using colour slicks and a second using plasticine onto a black card.
  • Consider your focus subject – Australian landmark, beach, ocean, reefs, outback or the city you live in.
  • Consider and discuss your composition plan – you will also plan prior to working onto the canvas board.
  • Consider a colour palette for your artwork.
  • Present and Discuss planning, as well as choices of colourways, subject, and point of view.
  • Present and Display your final art making.
