Claymate Mould Making Clay 900g is an oil/wax based modelling clay specially made for silicone mould making and sculpting objects for moulding. A fantastic all round, non-hardening clay with a smooth firm consistency which holds its shape yet is pliable and easy to mould. What's more, Claymate Mould Making Clay 900g provides excellent adhesion which makes joining of sculpting layers and sealing mould boxes a breeze. Claymate can also be softened with heat to make it more pliable and can even be melted to a liquid and poured (must be stirred while melting to avoid separation).

Additional Information

How to use:

Step 1: Create a flat backed object using the Claymate Mould Making Clay, or select an object with a flat side. NB: Glossy objects will cast a glossy finish, matte objects will cast a matte finish.

Step 2: Place the object down onto a flat working surface. To prevent damage to the working surface you can cover it in plastic sheeting or food wrap.

Step 3: Roll out a slab of Claymate Mould Making Clay to prepare a wall which will surround your object and contain the Silicone Moulding Rubber mixture. NB: This wall needs straight edges, must be 1cm thick, 1.5cm taller than the highest point of your object, and must sit 1cm away from your object.

Step 4: Use more Claymate Mould Making Clay to seal the wall to the board to prevent leakage.

Step 5: Silicone Moulding Rubber is a two part solution, Part A - Silicone Moulding Rubber and Part B - Catalyst. Both parts need to be individually weighed before mixing using digital scales.

Weigh out the required quantity of Part A, enough to fill your Claymate mould. Calculate 5% of this weight. This equals the amount of Part B that is required. For example if Part A = 100g you will require 5g of Part B. Mix both parts together thoroughly with a Popstick.

Step 6: In a slow thin stream, pour mixture into one corner of the mould to reduce air bubbles. Air bubbles can get stuck in intricate features of your object and ruin your mould.

Step 7: Fill your mould until the silicone is 1cm above your object. This can be tested using a Popstick.

Step 8: Leave to set until silicone is firm (15 hours minimum).

Step 9: When set, gently peel away Klean Klay from around your mould. Then pull the silicone mould off the board and release your object from the mould. You may need to trim excess silicone from your mould.
