Romero Britto Inspired Jewellery

In this lesson students will explore the work of Romero Britto. Students will analyse how Britto has used bold colours, shapes and lines in his work. Students will create their own jewellery sets inspired by the aesthetic qualities of Britto's paintings.

Lesson 1

Students explore the work of Romero Britto. Discuss his style, how he uses line, shape and colour in his work and what students think the work represents. Students focus on the lines and patterns which he uses. Students will create a jewellery set inspired by Britto. Students choose wooden jewellery pieces and decide which shapes they would like to use to create earrings, bracelets or necklaces.

Once students have decided on the shapes they will work with they use posca markers to create base colours similar to how Britto would use colour in his work.

Lesson 2

Students use a fine black marker to create an outline for their shapes. Students will then add pattern to their work by adding small lines and shapes in different colours. Once complete students connect their pieces using jump rings, ball chains and earring posts depending on what they are creating.

How is your work similar to Britto’s? How is it different? Describe how you have used colour and the kinds of shapes you have used.

Extension:

Students can use jewellery wire in combination with wooden pieces to create different and more elaborate kinds of jewellery.
