About this Live Online Workshop
Join Kylie Neagle on behalf of Zart and Art Gallery of South Australia as she delivers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art into the classroom.
As a non-First Nations person, Kylie understands the importance of putting artists at the centre of teaching and learning programs.
This online workshop is a teaching strategy session by Kylie and has been developed by the Art Gallery of South Australia in collaboration with individual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, as their voice is critical to the pedagogic aims of the program.
Teachers will learn best practice methods and practical tips on ways to integrate First Nations art, cultures and histories into daily learning environments in a culturally appropriate and meaningful way.
*Note: Kylie does not teach First Nations art techniques or processes – nor does she cover protocols.
Participants in this workshop will also receive a copy of Kylie Neagle’s teacher’s resource book Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art in the Classroom 2.

A Message from Zart
The responsibility to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures into everyday learning environments is shared by all educators – and works of art are the perfect vehicle to start the conversation.
At Zart, to support this we work closely with First Nations artists, educators and cultural knowledge holders to deliver our programs and workshops. We engage local elders on protocols and have been encouraged by them to support teachers to celebrate the beauty of First Nations cultural practices.
Finally, Zart always recommends teachers and schools connect with their local First Nations community first. This way, they will build strong, authentic relationships within their communities so their students, staff, and school can share in the beauty of First Nations culture and history.
