Acclaimed Australian painter Fiona McMonagle will lead a practical workshop demonstrating her energetic and expressive style in figurative watercolour, with a focus on head studies/ portraits.

This learning session is aimed at building your technical skill and confidence in mark making as Fiona leads you into the treacherous territory of contemporary watercolour painting.

About the Presenter

Fiona McMonagle was born in 1977 in Letterkenny, Ireland and moved to Melbourne the same year, where she still currently works and lives. 
Completing a diploma in visual arts at RMIT in 1997, Fiona went on to gain a BA in Fine Arts at The Victorian College of The Arts in 2000. Her works are held in numerous public collections including the NGV, AGNSW, AGSA and the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. By exploring the familiar of the suburban, Fiona depicts the familiar of the urban landscape. Often applying her own experiences or those of the people close to her, Fiona’s imagery is honest and true to the story they tell. Recent exhibitions include: ‘Let’s Play’ Bunjil Place. (2018) ‘A Dog Named Chop’, Hugo Michell Gallery, Adelaide. (2017)’ The Popular Pet Show’ National Portrait Gallery, ACT. Basil Sellers Art Prize, The Potter. Melb.
