Georgia O'Keefe Inspired Paintings

Term: 3 Year: 2017

Year 8 students from Our Lady of Sion College - Box Hill viewed a PowerPoint presentation exploring a range of artworks by the artist Georgia O’Keeffe with a focus on her flower pieces.

As a class, we discussed her use of art elements and principles, painting technique and the subject matter she explored through her work. Students then completed a visual analysis of a specific work, with a focus on defining her personal style in preparation for their own artworks. Each student then found a close-up photograph of a flower to use as a visual reference, and practised drawing the shapes and forms accurately in their sketchbook. They then completed some tonal painting exercises before starting their final piece. Cropping and composition was carefully considered, as well as the elements of tone and texture. A written evaluation was completed at the end of the task.
